As I sit here on my recliner
-
Rough times for you and me
Economic times are bleak you see -
There is nothing than can be finer
than a Sunday on the Recliner. -
I sit here in the kitchen with a bowl and spoon.
On this hot and humid summer's afternoon.

He doesn't wear shoes
And somehow he knows it
Helps with the muse
Yes, he's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear socks
And he's glad to show it
But he doesn't take walks
The stones can hurt a naked foot
So he takes off his shirt and just stays put
With pen held tight and all stretched out
He's ready to write what it's all about
He's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear shoes
And somehow he knows it
Helps with the muse
Yes, he's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear socks
And he's glad to show it
But he doesn't take walks
He writes the world just as he sees
With his toes all curled, comfy as you please
Reclining and refining his life and loves
In the glow of the shining sun above
He's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear shoes
And somehow he knows it
Helps with the muse
Yes, he's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear socks
And he's glad to show it
But he doesn't take walks
You don't need sandals, slippers or boots
No scented candles or three-piece suits
All you need is a place underneath a roof
And the look in his eyes is all the proof
He's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear shoes
And somehow he knows it
Helps with the muse
Yes, he's the barefoot poet
He doesn't wear socks
And he's glad to show it
But he doesn't take walks
