"I am not a poet
I am the girl
That owns the skies and paints the world
With all the words except her own;
I am not a poet."
~Excerpt "Not a Poet"~
I tend to write when my muse takes me. I like to write with a purpose, although I'm rarely lucky enough to find a solid one. The purpose usually becomes clear after I've finished the piece, so from there I can refine imagery and diction to suit the purpose and audience. My inspirations are far and wide. Music is a major one, any song can strike a chord at the right moment and set my pen to scrawling life into a blank page. I read all varieties of books, although I really enjoy the classics. The Stone Angel by Margaret Lawrence, Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, and anything by Barbara Kingsolver. I also like Tamora Pierce and Garth Nix. I listen to everything music-wise; I'm a classical singer, and I love celtic music. Tool, Metallica, Nickelback, Three Days Grace, Our Lady Peace, Vanessa Carlton, Fefe Dobson, Josh Garner, Loreena McKennitt and various others are constantly in my CD player.
I'm a professional singer, and I'm learning guitar. I suppose I'll work on this later, and get it to sounding better. Meanwhile, here's my website, for pictures of what I look like, I s'pose. I'm the one with the curls.
