I want to be alive.

STILLBORN by SYLVIA PLATH
These poems do not live: it's a sad diagnosis.
They grew their toes and fingers well enough,
Their little foreheads bulged with concentration.
If they missed out on walking about like people
It wasn't for any lack of mother-love.
"O I cannot explain what happened to them!
They are proper in shape and number and every part.
They sit so nicely in the pickling fluid!
They smile and smile and smile at me.
And still the lungs won't fill and the heart won't start.
They are not pigs, they are not even fish,
Though they have a piggy and a fishy air -
It would be better if they were alive, and that's what they were.
But they are dead, and their mother near dead with distraction,
And they stupidly stare and do not speak of her.

"I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again."
Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900)
"Every English poet should master the rules of grammar before he attempts to bend or break them."
Robert Graves (1895 - 1985)
"When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses."
John F. Kennedy
"One demands two things of a poem. Firstly, it must be a well-made
verbal object that does honor to the language in which it is written.
Secondly, it must say something significant about a reality common
to us all, but perceived from a unique perspective. What the poet
says has never been said before, but, once he has said it, his
readers recognize its validity for themselves."
W. H. Auden
"A poem should not mean but be."
Archibald MacLeish
"Poetry is being, not doing."
E.E. Cummings

I swear I'll return people's comments. I just don't have the time to really get into doing that at the moment ( i tend to do things in spurts).
