The Celtic Rose(Contest)

NOTE to all readers: The point of this contest is to pass around a trophy and to raise awareness about everything celtic including forms of poetry. I urge you, even if you don't think you can write, to attempt this contest. I am a very open-minded judger, and I would love it if everyone had a chance once in their lifetime to try Celtic poetry. Best, Prodigal.

Greetings Poets and Poetess'! I come to you with what I hope will turn into a tradition for me, and for you all! Once a year, around Easter time I will host the Celtic Rose contest, a contest that pits poets against each other to write old mystic pieces. The winner receives the gold prize, 500 points, and bragging rights. They'll make it on my author's page, and will get publicised! Now, here are the rules:

No swearing unless it is in good taste; I will be the judge

No sticky caps or internet talk, this is a serious contest, and if
anything that bad comes to my attention, I'll remove it

I have the right to remove any poem from the contest I wish without a reason... it IS my trophy after all.

Only one entry per person, multiple entries will be removed (both of them)

No prewrites, I want this to be fresh

Anything else important that I have missed (I'll edit with updates when I think of them I suppose)

Now for the actual info about the poems:
I want you to write me a poem, or short story in prose(doesn't have to rhyme) about anything Celtic; Scottish, Irish, welsh-you can utilise any form you want, but kudos go out to those who use welsh, Irish or Scottish forms [allpoetry.com/Column/1606674 - Column by Kevin, Haikumonk and others about poetry forms, there are some Celtic forms in there]. This can be anything mystical about fairies, druids, paganism, culture, lore, spirituality, religion, life, traditions... whatever. Please, the reason that I chose to not allow prewrites is because I want you to be thoughtful about what you are writing. I suggest putting some time aside to work on it straight out... that helps me get ready to write a poem; time.

You are by no means required to comment on anything of mine, infact I urge you NOT to. This contest is about the Celtic Rose trophy, and your poetry. I will try to comment on everyone's entries before the contest is over, and I will critique any critical poems after the judging is over.

There will be a gold medalist who receives 500 points and the bragging rights as well as the trophy (picture to put on your page).
There will also be a silver and bronze medalist, but there will be no other point awards. Sorry. I will also not be doing any honorable mentions, the reasoning being this is for a trophy, and if I honorable mention people, the ones who aren't mentioned will feel left out, and the winner might feel like their winning the prize wasn't just for them.

Good luck to you all, and I hope you have inspiration when you need it. Blessed be, and peace be with you.

~ProdigalPoet

NOTE: If you guys like this contest enough, I may shorten the time in between them, and then will urge you to keep on your authors page the number of times you have won. Feedback is good... please tell me if you like this or not.

2nd NOTE: If it turns out that there are more winners in my opinion than trophies can go to, I will hold another contest where the ones ranked below third must write a new poem.

This is a great idea for a contest, although I don't think I know enough about celtic poetry to enter it, but I just thought I'd wish you good luck with this contest.

Wonderful idea Love, I may try it if my muse wakes from her slumber. I have been for years into my Celtic blood, I wish I knew how to speak Gaelic. It is such a beautiful language.
Anyway back on subject,I love this idea. I had once hosted a contest for Celtic poetry and you would not believe how many people messaged me asking what Celtic was and ment.

Good luck with the contest, and I shall enter if I think of anything.

I will rise to your challenge of entering this poem and see what I can come up with. It will be a first attempt at this style of poetry for me, as you know, and I will do the best that I can. Also thank you for the challenge, I've been having a rough month and this will give me something great to focus my mind and energy on. I will try to give my Irish heritage justice. I have a lot of Irish in my blood and have always felt a strong bond to it. Now all I have to do is learn about it.

Im very familiar with celtic and welsh poetry styles and quite frankly, I find them all enjoyable as well as having fun with them too. A better even site for these types of poetry styles is:

Yay! You extended the contest. I was a little worried about coming up with something really good for your contest in a short period of time. Now I've got to go read up on the forms of celtic poetry and celtic folklore and culture.

    Hi

Great contest concept; very original and inspiring. However, I wanted to enquire as to why England has not been denoted in your introductory section, along with the others (Irish/Scottish Celtism) etc? For instance, there are Celtic influences in Cornwall (England) and across Britain no less. Just thought I'd point it out, as it seems to have been neglected.

I shall look to enter a piece

    Best wishes
    Stuart

Greetings. I suppose I overlooked that. I'll include that next time around. Sorry if that has inconvienced you. I urge you still to enter, and to look into the contest again next time.

    Hi PP

Many thanks for your response. No inconvenience at all; I merely wished to point it out, as it seems a shame to exclude any form of Celticism I will certainly be working on something over the next 2-3 days, to submit into this fantastic contest

    Best wishes
    Stuart
