NOTE: THIS CONTEST HAS BEEN EXTENDED. IT IS NOW ENDING ON THE 20th OF OCTOBER. ALSO, UP TO 15 ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED.
This is a contest about premature babies.
I am very fascinated by preemies and neonatal nursing, so I thought it would be nice to do a contest about it.
You may want to do a little research about preemies or Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) before you write your poem, though it is not required.
You have options for this contest. However, they all must be written in poem form; no stories, essays, etc. The options are:
1. Imagine that someone you know just gave birth to a premature baby. Write something that would comfort them in their time of sorrow and stress.
2. Write a poetic description of an NICU.
3. Pretend that you are a newborn premature baby. Write something from your point of view about your parents, the NICU, your emotions, moving from the womb to the outer world, etc.
4. Write something from a parent's point of view, looking at their child.
5. Write a description of a preemie.
6. If you can think of something related to preemies, but that is not included as an option, you can IM me to see if I'll allow it.
Rules:
1. No profanity.
2. No erotica.
3. No sticky caps. I'm not exactly opposed to them, but they are awkward to read.
4. Nothing overly mean. If you want to write something kind of mean, go ahead. I'll warn you if it's too mean, and if you ignore my warning, I'll disqualify you.
5. Nothing spiritual. I know some of you would probably want to write, "The Lord will heal her, everything will be okay, etc." Sorry, but I'm not religious, so I'm not a very good judge of that type of poetry.
7. Poetry ONLY. No stories, memoirs, etc.
8. Nothing really long, please. If it's too long, then by the time I'm finished reading it, I'll be crabby (I have a fairly short attention span) and probably won't like your piece much.
9. Don't write in all caps.
10. Prewrites are only allowed if they actually fit one of the options!
11. Put the Option # you chose in your Author's Comments box.
12. If I think of any other rules that you have unknowingly violated, I'll let you know.
Have fun! I look forward to reading your pieces.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 11, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: First of all...
I AM SO, SO SORRY THAT I TOOK SO LONG TO JUDGE!
I really do apologize. I know I hate when people take a long time to judge their contests, because it seems like they just don't respect or care about the entrants. I assure you, I do care about you. Thanbk you for your patience.
Thank you so much, all of you, for entering my contest. Your work is heartbreaking, and yet inspiring. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I wanted to give you all points just for writing such wonderful pieces, but I don't have that many points. I think the best payment/reward I can give you is to assure all of you that the next time I have a contest, I will judge PROMPTLY. I promise that I will do my best to judge my future contests withing a week of their closing.
You all deserve some reward, but I can't givee much of anything to you. Please just know that I am thankful, and I loved reading your pieces.
Some of you might notice that the first place winner, StormGoddess, also won my last contest. I promise that this is just a coincidence.
First place...StormGoddess with Unperfect birth
Second...-Pastel Branches- with Winter's Early Arrival
Third...LilPadgesPrincess with Born Too Soon

I wrote from a grandparent's point fo view, not a parents. Hope that is acceptable? Liked this idea as many of us have preemie babies or relatives who were that.
-
It's fine.
However, you were the 11th person to enter, so supposedly you'd be disqualified. Luckily for you, I am extending the time and amount of entries allowed. You're in luck!
