BATTLE OF THE SEXES - ROUND 4 - Write a tribute to one of your AP favourites (PREWRITES NOW ALLOWED)

NOW OPEN TO PRE-WRITES !!!!!!!

Hello again gals and guys!

Welcome to the fourth BATTLE OF THE SEXES contest!

Come on gals...the chaps are just in the lead...let's bring it back

This time we want you to write a poem for one of your favourites here on All Poetry. Tell us why they are on your favourites list and why they are so special! Or it can be based on a member of your AP Family. Tell us why they are part of your family, how they've impacted on your life but also something about their work. This is an opportunity to promote your favourites, so come on, get writing.

It really is quite simple!

ANYONE CAN ENTER! YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE BEEN IN OUR OTHER CONTESTS

Here are the rules:

1. You can write up to 3 poems each, but they must be for different favourites!

2. No swearing or erotica

3. No slagging off others poems in this contest!!

4. It would be nice if you put a link to them in the authors box, but not essential

5. Please put (m) for male and (f) for female after your poem title to aid us with the judging process - THIS REPRESENTS YOUR SEX, NOT YOUR FAVOURITES

6. It has to be in one of the following styles:

Rictameter

A poem with the syllable count 2,4,6,8,10,8,6,4,2 with the first and last word/s being the same. e.g:

Mathew

Mathew
He is my all
The sunshine in my day
My moon and stars through each cold night
His tenderness moves me and I feel loved
He has dried the tears that I've cried
He gives his strength to me
I love him, My...
Mathew

(C) Blissful Princess

Acrostic

A poem where the letter at the start of each line is the first letter

in the title/name and so on. e,g:

Blissful princess

Blissful princess, you came into my
life, at a time when
I needed you most.
Suddenly I had
someone there
for me, who cares,
understands and
loves.

Poems and stories we share.
Relationships, heartaches and fun.
I can't think of life without you.
Now you're here I don't want you to go.
Can you ever really know how I feel,
even when I've written this?
Still, I wanted to do something, to
show how much you mean to me.

(c) Recovering slowly (Claire)

Free verse

Does not have to rhyme. Does not have to have a specific rhythm . Has no specific length. Makes use of figurative speech. e.g:

Eating Poetry

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth.
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry.

The librarian does not believe what she sees.
Her eyes are sad
and she walks with her hands in her dress.

The poems are gone.
The light is dim.
The dogs are on the basement stairs and coming up.

Their eyeballs roll,
their blond legs burn like brush.
The poor librarian begins to stamp her feet and weep.

She does not understand.
When I get on my knees and lick her hand,
she screams.

I am a new man.
I snarl at her and bark.
I romp with joy in the bookish dark.

Gold - 300 points
Silver - 75 points

So, you think you can rise to the challenge my friends???

Thanks in advance for your entries...we look forward to reading them!

UPDATE

You lucky, lucky people are now allowed to put in pre-writes! The same rules apply though, up to three poems and they must be about different AP favourites/family!

I'd like to say an extra thank you to those of you who have already blessed us with new writes and those who continue to do so! We all like a bit of fresh writing after all!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 1, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 75, Bronze: 35
  • Final notes:
Well, WOW There were loads of entries in this contest (the most we've had anyway) and they were all so great!
We really enjoyed reading them all and it left us feeling all the love and admiration floating around Allpoetry - all the friendships that have been made is inspiring!

Here comes the cliche - it was really tough to judge! In the end, some of the top contenders missed out because they didn't follow rule 5. We did warn you and it was only fair to follow through with our rules!
    Sorry

Here are the winning poems in case they are removed from the contest:

    GOLD ~ Celticmoon Goddess ~

Is this a continuation of the Battle of the Sexes from a year or so ago....the one that sort of fizzled in the middle? Or is this one open to anyone to enter?(I ask because it seems to be a 'group' thing, but I can't see any thing stating that only certain people can enter.

At first I thought it is a contest for erotica and wanted to refuse clicking by but I saw it’s in Other category so I got interested enough to have a view on. I did like the idea. I’m just hopeful it’s open to everyone.
Could we rhyme our poetry. I have problem understanding “Does not have to rhyme. Does not have to have a specific rhythm .”
I wish everyone good luck and you two happy moment on judging this :-)

Hey, don’t blame me. English is not my main language. Once I entered a contest whose host didn’t want rhyming poetry but she said in a way I had trouble understanding it and I rhymed my poem and you can guess what happened!
I’m just hopeful you don’t close it before the date you wrote.

hehehe I don't plan on finishing the contest early my friend, but it does close after 60 entries, but then that is unlikely to happen anyway Hope to see your entry/entries soon, take care! Blissful Princess (Sarah)

p.s If you have any questions about the contest please feel free to IM me or Claire (recovering slowly) and we will try to help!

First of all, congratulations to all especially to winners. It was my honored to be among all these great poets of AP. After that, I would like to thank you, Blissful Princess and Recovering slowly for hosting such sweet contest. I think we all wrote from our heart for people we love/admire so the result of the contest mustn’t be that important. Thanks again :-)
