The Passion (prepare my heart for Holy Week)

Help me prepare my heart for Holy Week. Use your creative talents to move my heart to appreciate the death and resurrection of the Savior.
Here are your options

1) Use a story from the Old Testament and show how it points to Christ.
For example
a ) Abraham's sacrifice of Issac points clearly to The Father's sacrifice of his only son
b ) The story of Joseph shows how God was willing to enter our sin filled world to save his brothers.
c ) Noah and the Ark shows how Jesus endured God's wrath against sin to save us.

2) Write your personal testimony. How did you discover the grace provided by the cross? How were you changed?

3) Write a parable about Jesus and his death on a cross. For example write a story about a king who had a son. This son became lost and broke the king's law requiring death. The king refused to kill his own son, so he died in his son's place.

4) Write about the movie "The Passion of the Christ." Put yourself in the audience once again and witness the brutal beating, the crucifixion and the love of the words "This is my body broken for you." Write how that moved you.

Move me. These pieces should be filled with emotion. They should be passionate.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on April 6, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you for entering my contest. Your writings helped prepare me for this weekend.
Most entries used option 4 which I expected, but I was hoping for some of the other options.
Regardless of the outcome, I think the entries honored our savior and blessed the readers.
I chose "I Remember that Man..." because it met the criteria for option 4 and had a unique perspective coming from the soldier. "Broken for You" met the criteria of option 4 and reminded me how I felt watching the movie for the first time.
"Mary's Passion" was a heart-felt piece from Mary's perspective. It was a bit more prose than poetry but still very poignant and worth a read.
"Watch me on the Cross" gave a decent perspective from Christ's point of view as he hung to die. I liked the choice of perspective. One or two lines bothered me, but over all I thought it an excellent piece and worth the read.
"His Hands Extended" told a more complete story than "The Passion." The portions that referenced the movie, were vivid and inpactful.

    Great Idea for A Contest.

I've been writing short poems on how Jesus is seen in both the Old and New Testament and are posted here.

Yes, these should be emotional and passionate, but they should also be true, or we're wasting our time.

    A personal conviction of mine.

    God bless your efforts here!
