Make me proud to be back in my home state. I lived in North Carolina for 4 years and just moved back to NY. And for 4 years I had to hear how bad NY is.."yanks beep their horns, are rude, don't get country livin, ect" lol. I <3 NY and I've always found upstate NY to be very friendly. In NY, people just pop on over uninvited to entertain you and are always doing stuff, so you don't get bored. I want this contest to make me smile and I'd like to hear good things about my home state for a change...so, express what you love about NY.
You can write about NYC or any part of the state such as small towns, the Adirondacks, ect or you can write about NY in general. The city is just a part of a big state..although NYC is beautiful, movie stars are there and a lot of business is done there. Upstate NY also has beautiful mountains, country side, lakes, waterfalls, pretty seasons, camp sites, beaches, ect. NY also has diverse food and music, big holiday parties and gatherings, ect. I love New York's variety and diversity. So, be creative and write about NY's beauty, culture or whatever you like best about it. Whatever style you write is fine, but I'm not a big fan of poems that are only like 2 or 3 lines, so give me more than that.

I just came back from a lovely vacation in both the Adirondacks and NYC, and I have to say, the people in both were just as nice and helpful as anywhere else I've ever been ... even in the heart of Dixie. I loved the wild beauty and quiet hardiness of the mountains and countryside, but there is nowhere in the world like New York City! It is the most vibrant and exciting place I've ever been ... and I've been to most of the major cities in this country, including LA, San Francisco etc. I'm a country girl and proud of it, but man, I'm glad there are places like New York City to escape to when the cows get too loud.
Be proud of your home ... you have plenty of reason to be

lol - I live in New York, and am thinking about re-locating to North Carolina!...lol
Love this area, though, with all it's seasons and rural beauty - and the friendliness of everyone. But am getting mighty tired of the ice/cold/high heating costs in the winters.
best wishes in your contest.
