Hi all. For this contest, I would love for you to write a poem to my sister.
She recently lost her son, my Godson to S.I.D.S. Nicholas was only seven weeks old. My sister is a cancer survior, who was told she would most likely never be able to have children. God proved the doctors wrong, and blessed her and her husband with a beautiful baby boy.
Nicholas was only here for seven weeks, but the lives he changed cannot be counted by myself.
My sister, whom had never been too religious has without fail, had her son in church every week since he was born. Through his death, when most would be angry with God, she has held on to her faith. Her belief is now stronger. My wish with this contest is to provide her with inspiration and hope.

I am asking for poetry that cheers and heals the heart. We do not want anything sad or depressing, as his life and memory is to be celebrated.
My sister's faith in God has not altered, and I would love to see poetry that will help boost that faith!
My Godson has been a blessing... we want to educate and spread the word that SIDS can happen to anyone. It is real... and people should educate themselves about it!! I would also like messages from anyone that knows about websites or awareness groups for SIDS. My sister is trying to educate herself further so that she can educate others. Her wish is that another family not have to endure such pain as her and her husband.
Below is Nicholas at 1 week old.

Nicholas sucking on his thumb. Beautiful, isn't he?

RULES:
1. Anything depressing will be removed immediately!
2. Be thoughtful.
3. Please help spread the word that SIDS can happen.
This contest will be judged by sister, Lindsey. She is not on this site yet, but maybe we can encourage that with this contest too!
Thank you and we look forward to your entries.

I'm so sorry to hear of Nicholas's loss. A dear friend of mine is a paediatrician specialising in S.I.D.S. and if she knows any websites I'll let you know.
I wrote this poem as a response to an interview I read, long ago, of the mother of a S.I.D.S. victim and her unhappy feelings towards sleep. my hope was for this poem to represent a step on the journey of healing

Thanks so much for your beautiful comment. I am going to read that poem, and will be sure that my sister, Lindsey does as well. We appreciate you letting us know about websites and so forth. We find comfort in filling ourselves with what little information there is about SIDS.

sincerely,
Melanie

I lost a child in utero a very long time ago & while I am not in the frame of mind to add a poem to the contest itself; nonetheless, I wanted to add my thoughts & prayers. I believe that all things happen for their reason & am proud of your sister for maintaining her faith in this difficult instance. All my best to her and your family.

to your sister
I feel deeply for your loss. Two babies in my family have died from SIDS; my oldest brother & youngest cousin. I am so glad to know you have Jesus Christ to turn to, for your son, Nicholas, is now with Him. God has given me a blessing, too: a 7 month old little boy I named Dewey. I hope He'll bless you with another, but if He doesn't, just remember your son & that you'll see him when you get to Heaven.
God Bless you both,

you're welcome
And thank you. Your nephew was such a handsome little boy! My favorite picture is the one with their hands under his head. I'll think of him every time I look at my son & send a prayer for you & your family.
