- Final notes: Hi Everyone and thanks so much for joining us in another POW...and a half. I do apologize for the delay...it's funny how we often think we can do more than we ought, and that was a misjudgment on my part this past week. Wed. I underwent medical tests, and Thurs. what was supposed to be a minor surgery turned a bit more complex, rendering me pretty useless for a good 3 days. The good news is...your regular host, Arkbear, is back from vacation! Yay! I suspect with his return things will quickly get back to normal and he'll run a tight ship as those of you who've been with us before, have come to expect. : )
I do want to thank Bear and all of you for allowing me the honor and pleasure of hosting the PO's these last few weeks. It's been a struggle at times, but I've enjoyed reading the great poetry produced week after week, seeing old faces return, and seeing so many first timers...all of whom we hope will return again!
Thank you also to my co-judges...I could never do this without their help, and I think they do a fantastic job each week of giving you the best feedback each is capable of. I hope you'll take a few minutes to send a thank-you for the time and careful attention they've given your poem. As Joyce has said in her final notes, I too believe honest and constructive feedback is one of the best gifts we can give each other as poets, so I also want to thank those of you who have taken the time to comment on the other entries. I'm always encouraged to see such great sportsmanship, because I know sometimes, even a small amount of encouragement can go a long way.
Lastly...if your writing talents include short stories (or if you want to explore the possibility...) be sure and check out the SO contests, generally running simultaneously with the PO's. You'll find the same, great quality comments from judges who love the written word in all its forms, and an encouraging place to widen your writing skills if it's new to you. Okay! Business aside, let's congratulate our winners for the week of October 12th, 2008...
Gold, with a total of 385.25 out of a possible 400 points, goes to Perdu for his poem, "Vocal Range". It's so difficult to breathe fresh life into themes that have often been written on, but this poem is a wonderful example, also proving it doesn't take obscure or flowery words to do so. Congrats, Zach!
Not far behind is our Silver winner...with a score of 380.35..."The strange museum" by Floorboards. The combination of a unique theme with some rather intense imagery made this poem one of the most fun I've read in a long time, while bringing across an observation few could argue with.
Bronze this week, with a score of 380.05, goes to...AutumnsFlame, for the poem "Dreams From a Fishbowl". This too was a very fun read with a unique theme, well written in rhyme. But don't listen to me...go check it (and our other winners!) out for yourself! : )
