NOTICE: I have extended this contest because I will be busy this weekend and too busy to judge. I would appreciate it if you WOULD NOT enter this contest unless you already have at least one entry. Also, alot of poems may be disqualified if you don't enter an original poem with every prewrite. I SAID THAT TWICE! Oh well...Some of you did what I asked, and I thank you very much for doing that! I do reserve the right to close the contest at any time, so be prepared to have entries suddenly judged without warning if I get the time
Thanks!

------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION:
This is a contest for those who can write good poetry, with a deep meaning!
This IS NOT a contest for those of you who write the following:
"I really like the ocean,
mostly 'cause it's blue,
I said I like the ocean,
And I might like you too."
That's terrible! You can all write better than that! Try painting pictures with your words! Or, tell about an experience through someone else's eyes, and have that person represent humanity, or just write like no one else has ever thought to. This isn't hard! If you're truly a poet, you can do it!
------------------------------------------
RULES FOR WRITING:
I know nobody likes rules, but they're a part of life. Otherwise, you could all write terrible poetry. I have already stated, this is for good poets. Therefore, there must be rules:
~No StIcKy CaPs, because that's plain ignorant.
~I DO NOT allow anyone, friend or foe, to swear or use questionable content. Once again, if you're really a poet, you can do without it.
~The above rule also applies to Erotica and Adult junk. You're better than that.
~I DO allow prewrites, but if it doesn't apply FULLY to this contest's theme, you will be disqualified. Also, you must enter ONE ORIGINAL poem with every prewrite!
~Angst, etc. is allowed, as long as it applies to the theme.
~PLEASE HAVE FUN! If you don't, I'll have to cut off your arms and legs with a chainsaw. O.K.?
~Please comment on at least one of my poems. It's not neccesary, but if you don't, I might assume you're lazy, and not rank you high in the contest.
~You can only enter up to FOUR POEMS!
------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT OPTIONS AND TIPS FOR WRITING:
Here are your options for writing:
~Write about something fantastical, something you can only dream of!
~Write a poem based on your favorite song, that has deeper meaning than most people could understand.
~Write a poem about the meaning of life (no ideas from Monty Python please).
~Write a poem about whether there is life after death.
~Write a poem about one thing that's made you so emotionally hurt, that it's hard to describe.
~Write about the worst thing that's ever happened to you, and how it's effected you deeply, or not at all.
------------------------------------------
POINTS AND WINNING:
Ranks are as follows:
Gold: 300 points
Silver: 60 points
Bronze: 30 points
3 Honorable Mention: Applause!
------------------------------------------
CLOSING COMMENTS:
Pre-writes are allowed, but I don't like them too much. Please enter a GOOD poem, if you absolutely have to enter a prewrite. Also, you must enter ONE ORIGINAL poem, with every prewrite! Have fun writing!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 13, 2004
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: I'm sorry to announce, that because there were so many entries and because so many people failed to comply with all the rules, prewrites are disqualified. However, prewrites take up almost no work to enter so it's not a big deal, but I do apologize to those that followed the rules but had their prewrite DQ'd.
Now about these winners:
All three of these people followed the rules, and did a wonderful job of writing a deep peice for others to think about and enjoy. If you didn't place, it just means I thought these peices were outstanding, and yours could've come close!
About Honorable Mentions:
These are poems that rocked, or came close, or didn't quite seem to rock enough. I have mostly seperate reasons for each one, but I won't explain it all.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ENTERING!
Honorable Mentions:
~Shadow Dancing at the Sad Café
~The Visitor
~The Unknown
Remember, if you want to enter my next contest (this is my first), then please go to my author page from time to time to see if I have set a date for it. THANKS AGAIN FOR GIVING ME GREAT POETRY TO READ!

wow
what an intresting contest, nice to see you finally created one, i will try to paint with words and such a poem with a real core that the contest askes for, right, only the good stuff!(who wants to drown their eyes in garbage)ok so simply stated, i'll stop rambling and typing all this and start to think, create and enter...awesome contest!
~sunrise777~ -
great depth to the choices
-
i have a poem, but am unsure it fits the topics (ugh:|)what to do? i'll keep writing .this contest has many outstanding entries!!!WAY 2 GO!
-
I'm uncertain about whether one of my poems would fit one of the topics for this contest. It's a poem about my life. It's called "My Life as a Teen." It can be read, of course, under my username. It's a pretty good poem, and a lot of people like it.
-
Just letting you know that I entered my poem "My Life as a Teen," since the judging isn't too far from now, and it does, in a way have to do with the meaning of life.
-
ah! the contest just ended right before i finished my original!!! can i still enter it i guess not the contest is over huh...
-
oh awesome i actually got mine in whell then ok nevermind =]
-
and what, exactly, constitutes a "deep" thought?
i suppose this is a silly question; one person's deep thought is another's off-hand remark.

Passive Genocide
Passive genocide
Slips from aching fingers
As the world rolls
Around in it's dying.
Evolving aggression
Roams the pathways
Created by insecure minds
Who pretend to lead us
By the skin of our offered throats.

Sorry it took so long for me to enter an original piece, i started writing it the night the contest started and was thinking about it up until the very last min. Nice contest though it was an interesting challenge.

Why are we naked?
Because we know too much...
Can we pretend that we're not?
Well, of course,
But we're still going to die...
I'm scared.
It's okay,
Some day, we'll die Alive,
And we won't care that we're naked...
You mean it?
Every word... -
hey there, i just have to say one thing, i dont think its cool that you run a contest and you dont even comment on all of our poems, i mean that should be the tradeoff for entering, that at least we get some feedback, you know? maybe you see it differently but i dunno, usually when i enter a contest the judges comment on everyone's poems. maybe you should consider that next time dood. peace
-0m. -
I didn't get the time to comment on everything while I judging, because I don't control time
But I certainly plan on getting around to commenting on the rest of the poetry I haven't already, at least the poems that followed rules. Thanks for your help, but I do have a plan

ah, enter original poem with prewrite. somehow i read that but it's meaning failed to register, so i just entered a prewrite. i never take the time to write a poem specifically for a contest (unless it's a quick 3-6 line poem that takes 3 to 6 seconds to type out).
alright, i yeild. would have been nice, however, if i got an im telling me that i was neglecting one of the conditions for the contest. it can't always be assumed that such things are being ignored intentionally. in my case, i read the conditions, but not all the conditions registered. -
anyway, i suppose it wasn't my "deepest thoughts". not sure what is. not sure my "deepest thoughts" really have words that can be used to express or convey them.
-
Don't worry about it
I'm just happy you understand. I'm sorry I didn't IM you, but I had no idea I was going to recieve so many entries in my very first contest! I'm sorry I didn't have time to IM everybody (and some of the few I did I don't think even bothered to make right what they did wrong). I hope you do enter my next contest (whenever it is), as it's always nice to have good poets. Thanks for co-operating! I know, I know, I'm hard to live with!
In Hope for Horizons,

Like your quote, too!

Congratulations to all the winners!
