My mother said my shadow often looked like a cloud.
I said I often felt like one.
doppelganger © apples fell
train rails from montana
ship oak trees
and the smallest birds
( not yet able to fly )
but at least
afternoon clouds orbit
I read the walls of my hotel
stars out of pattern as backdrop
the riverbed outside
becomes a selfish mouth of water
fish corpses and fog
your head in the frame warps a bit
while sorrow illuminates the
deterioration of rumor
I watch shadows crook
like a fresh self
as floating lights extinguish
the ark of slumber

Auburn fur gleams
with youth's intrigue,
calls the shadows out to play
with the clever fox who
tickles their edges
with bushy tail
Yet, quiet reflection
reveals wisdom heavier
than her years, gained
through keen sense of self,
not diminished
by phantasy's grin
Dark night brightens
with her presence
and breezes carry
a faint lemon scent
that lingers among holly,
where the fox
licks the moon
from her paw
