~ Blanket of Snow

World has fallen asleep under the blanket of snow
I ask the wandering wind, to say my last goodbye to you
Ages away, across the frozen seas and unseen lands
I remember this same wind.. when on eastern shores it blew

This land has been forsaken.. I see the old trees of past
Beyond the horizon now lies the desired spring of yesterday
The silence fills the air, gloom shadows my road home
I wish the winter would sleep.. I wish it'd go away

But the beacon has long fallen beneath western seas
And I can no more even see the stars of old twinkling light
So in my loneliness.. I quietly light out the last candle..
And watch the west wind.. riding away.. out of my sight

Oh how sad!!! Honey I know how you feel! I am hating this prolonged winter, it's driving me bonkeroos. Great write, very eloquent writing style and the flow was nice as well.

I can relate to the blanket of snow… I see it at my back garden every morning… its like a earth’s been carpeted with white material… your poem is lovely … desire is longing for a change of weather.. we are too hoping for ugly winter to move on and let spring come through… keep on writing Sherish… I apologise for not commenting earlier on…

    Fascinating...

hi... this si so beautiful... it's been a lond time since I've read about... for some unknown reason... I find it very fascinating... maybe becoz I've never seen snow before... It's filled with nostalgia...something I can never do with my poetry, and therefore have a great respect for... everyone here is wishing for 'winter'(plesantly cool) to go on for ever and ever... coz the summers are scorching... and here(there?) you are wishing for it to go away... ...

A very beautiful poem! Your imagery is top notch and the flow is very smooth. Believe me, I am ready for winter to go away as well... it seems like I loose my leaves in winter too and have a hard time dealing with being naked . Spring will be welcomed any time it sees fit to come and stay.

    Best wishes and s ~genielassie~
