2am on Swann Street with Guinevere

Missing image
She saw me
2 am and the doors of the "Band On the Wall"
hustled like a whore

There she was
smouldering
with shadowy eyes
on the corner of Swann buildings

The ornate archway
wrought iron, blackened snake-like spheres
curvaceous
playing pretty patterns
around the shadows

Hissing , sneering paths
veer inside
the streets prostituted themselves for her
as the dampness of the city
begged her to let it play
Just for the night

Such is the snake
beautiful in her skin
I stuttered over to her
my drunkenness played a fool
her cold callous hands
offered curled fingers
to come

The black dress she wore
seemed to soak into the iron gates
she leaned there, as if they belonged to her

I whispered her name
as I got closer "Guinevere"
almost child-like-
in wonderment withholding
her beauty

She bit back on her sardonic smile
smiling assassin

"You again, I knew you'd look for me-
do you want to touch me
my dress
steel-tipped stilettos, kiss me then pretty one"

I heaved my breast
bristling towards her
I ebbed
a tide of emotionless smiles

Then she held me
for a brief moment
I felt a rush
all the pain
Seeping between us and the iron gates
Oedipus awaits
on a road trip to hell

2 am in the city
Swann streets curb-crawls its way into the night
as if the whore
of everyone's dreams
How Guinevere knew me
so well, "sleep pretty baby" she hissed

Author notes

Another musing to the great Guinevere, shadowtiger's Muse!!
she is a beauty, but suffers fools gladly..
How she melts.. bends and breaks broken fools and hearts..
she is all this and more
The Band on the Wall, is a famous club in Manchester on Swann street and the Swann Buildings are a listed building due to their architecture. They lie in the Northern Quarter of Manchester.

Thankyou Suzi for letting me borrow her again
Hope you like this one too.

I think as Suzi says.. her muse can be whatever you want her to be.. she just doesn't like fools and people who feel sorry for their lots in life..
she is all those women and more, she is what some want to be and can't
and then again, she is what they really don't want to see or hear but are forced to look at ..
thankyou for your critiques on these Charles..

i cannot applaud this one enough. im to become infatuated with this charactor. im pretty sure you have based it around a real person, or at least around a persona. i beleive her to be either a stripper or perhaps even a prostitute. these poetic writes about the darkside are very inense. almost frightening, frightening in that i know they are real. we have the same dark alleys and seedy bars here but this has a bit of a dark eloquence to it. wondeful creation you have here. the more you write around this charactor the more life and mystery you are lending to her. it makes a person want to know more. this charactor alone is worth a book of material. and the mysterious firt person perception of her.

I love that special quality you bring to these 'citystreet' poems. It is more than atmosphere, you make the city, that completely different face of the city than people normally write about, get right under the skin. Almost like Victorian times, when the streets would be deserted at 2am- but it is not that, it is contemporary. It is as if the architecture and Guinevere in this case, conspire to some kind of existentiaist experience. Brilliantly done again.

Dark and mysterious, frightening yet seductive, beautiful but scary, it's all these things and more. There is a slightly sultry and seductive quality. Almost like a potent wine. I can't believe how well you capture te imagery. Keep on writing.

Guinevere could tempt even the most closed off heart into bleeding for her games. Nicely done, Gill.

My goodness, you did an absolutely great job. In my opinion, I think you nailed this. This was a great fusion of the romantic, and the hard biting reality. This was instantly readable. I'd like to thank you for sharing this. I benefitted immensely.
