I saw her at the silversmiths
she shone alongside the bejewelled counter tops
(for the love of Guinevere)
I envied her smile
even through sadistic teeth
she could hold my conversations
on the tip of her tongue
She wasn't even mine
but the desire to empty my soul
&
lay it bare
before her
set my caution to the winds
flying in and out
of the old stalls towards her
eyes wide and sorrowful
Smithfield Market
captured me that day
the man making neo-classical
bracelets and chains to bind
nodded towards me
I gathered my portion
strolled up
stood beside her
He said her name in a slow husk
but I already knew
"Guinevere"
Oh, how she ached across my lips
many tears I'd smeared
salted-
down, bemused
tracks; lines of followers
stared at her beguiling beauty
She didn't speak
that day
(no words were needed)
The black taut shadows
in her starlit silvered eyes
said more than a thousand
tears ever would
silent
Author notes
More musings with Guinevere, shadowtiger's wonderful muse
Smithfield Market is now a beautiful place, filled with antiques and all manner of craft making.
Again, another part of Manchester, my City..
The photograph is of the old market, how it used to be

Beautiful. I love these kinds of musings...where a place, a scent and a soul is captured so brilliantly that no other explanation is needed...and the richness is both universal and sacred. Lovely work from a lovely lady...and yes, one of the best damn titles I've seen yet!

good stuff, good stuff. -
Guin slipping through the antique stalls- what does she tell you as you dodge and chase after her? That even in her silence there are the rhythms of the poet.
-
you are winning my heart with the guin musings and with your city, manchester.they go together so well.this one is the best by far,not that allof them haven't been good.i like the old smithfield market, but i guess the new one is spectacular.i an eternally impressed with your verbage and the structure of your writes.they always seem to entertain as well as teach.
-
many thanks.. I'm glad I impressed you.. i am
ing now.. thanks
-
thankyou
yeah, that's the feel I was hoping to get here..

I'm intrigued by the images you leave in my mind after reading this one. I think you are reading someone's face or perhaps looking at a rendition of those things womanly that haunt unexpectedly--as a piece of art that stirs inner reflection. It's the unity between the two of you... and perhaps it is 'two of you'. This aches. The last verse blew me away. No words left to say.
Your writing style is impeccable.

i like the feel of this poem. it's timeless to me. it could be years ago or now. your choice of words add mystery, romance and sadness all tied together. awesome picture too

This painted a fascinating picture, both of the background and the characters, and I agree it has a sense of mystery - good one.

this is absolutely engrossing dear. i remeber seeing the other poem and was intrigued by its title but didnt read it, i guess because i thought it was perhaps a renaisance thing. but am going to go find it now. is this a series you are working on? if it is im looking forward to the next one. this really draws a person in. there is a romantic mystery about it. if it is a series i hope to see you complile these into one document. very nicely done. this is classically novelish and romantic. the atmosphere you have created, i really feel like im there. great great work. this is so very publishable.

Antiques did someone say antiques! Something that I absolutely adore! Something that I can no longer partake with all the walking and driving to get there! Oh, the pain, the pain! I love this poem, you've brought back fond memories even though my memories are on a distant shore.
Thanks so much for sharing.
