I'm no supermodel.
I dont have
beautiful eyes
gorgeous hair
body to die for
all the requirements
of being rich and famous
I remind myself of the film
beauty and the beast
some days beauty appears
in other words
i look in the mirror
in the morning
and dont feel like
throwing up
my eyes are sparkling
my skin is glowing
my hair looks good
other days the beast
rears its head
on these mornings
(which are more often than not)
i look in the mirror and see
bloodshot eyes
blending into wrinkles
and blemishes
age fighting to
take over my face
i plaster miracle creams
on my skin
in desperate belief at their claims
'delays the signs of aging'
what utter rubbish.
made up by some advertising buff
in a dark leather bound office
The truth is
I dont care
on the outside
i can be beauty
i can be beast
my real beauty
is
inside
of
me

I think this is something every girl should read.
who knows, we might have less sorrow in the world.
less anorexia, less bulimia, less suicide, less cutting, less so many things.
if only they could read and understand -
Wonderful
If I'm reading the dates right, this was NOT a recent poem. And yet, despite the topic, it is very "ageless." I love the analogies to Beauty and the Beast, and agree.
I enjoyed what it said, and how you said it.
Thank you.
