Far away I see and admire.
Beauty glows from within,
A flower I cannot desire.
To deracinate would be a sin
An insect feeds on her leaves
But her roots are not harmed.
She holds onto what she believes
Though her life may be swarmed.
The gardener waters her soil
With tears of genuine devotion
Born of the uncertain turmoil
Bringing peace in the commotion.
I stand and watch in awe
Doing what I can in secret.
Then into hiding I withdraw
Lest I begin to covet.
I love her from a distance.
This flower does not belong to me.
Exercising retrained resistance
I wait quietly admiring what I see.
