a friend
recently asked me,
after leaving a record store
where we saw this girl,
she was attractive
i'll admit
but nothing to pine over,
in the car
leaving the parking lot
he says
"sometimes, don't you think you're just better off alone?"
and i replied
"49 percent of me
wants to be with a girl
who understands me
and can tolerate me
and loves me more than
i could ever imagine.
51 percent of me
prefers to be alone
prefers peace and quiet
doesn't bother
to long
for understanding
compassion
or devotion.
so the loneliness
always wins."
