Descartes

First I play around just having fun.
The real contest poem, DESCARTES, is at the end of this.

Rule says I can use no more than 16 words? Oh Phooey!
-----------------------------------------------------

Ellis's Complaint

Use sixteen only; I want more!
Want to write a poem with flow.
Too few words makes it a chore,
A limitation producing woe.

I am going to break the rule of your
Dad-blamed, ill-fated so so
Contest, cause I think that to soar
One must trust their heart not to go slow.

Therefore, as I said before,
In the verse above a while ago,
Since rhyming is what I most adore,
And I want to write a rhyme with glow,

And your rule upon me has sorely wore
Down my hopes to where I must do a snow
Job on you and so now I implore
You to say ALL words I may bestow!

--Tiki Cat
------------------------------------------------
All used above:
more, before, chore, your, soar, wore, adore, implore
glow, snow, flow, slow, woe, ago, so,  bestow
------------------------------------------------

Those sixteen are end rhymes; now I can defy
Your rule, say goodbye rule without saying why
In a reply; now I fly, touch the sky; I'm not shy.
I do not lie; I don't deny my genius is my alibi.

My moon beam dream may deem from you a scream,
But worth my scheme to redeem my esteem in this scene.

-------------------------------------------------

Now I shall depart from this start and impart
From my heart

Oh, hell. It's time to write a decent, serious poem following the rules:

-------------------------------------------------

Descartes

Rene Descartes as a thinking man was very smart
His mind was so sharp he was honored before the queen
Invented calculus, wrote philosophy, had a good heart
Along with Spinoza and Leibnitz, he was most keen
On rational thinking, so rational philosophy was his scene

Descartes decided to depart from what had been
At the heart of his thought was the individual for Descartes
He saw the soul apart from all else with nothing between
From the metaphysics of Plato, Aristotle, he did depart
To the world Descartes has much great thinking to impart

Descartes is studied by all young thinkers who are green
They have Descartes in a special place on their chart
Uncomplicated with, "I think, therefore I exist," quite lean
For everything that exists, this is where you start
For Descartes, like for Pythagoras, this is his Golden Mean

In this busy world of today where we all dart
About, Descartes at heart was always calm, neat, and clean

--Ellis

You simply blew me away with this poem Sir Ellis! I am not even worthy to say that my poetry rhymes with such flair. Uggh, I do not even compare to this fluid form and the lack of effort it displays for all to see! Big brother will you please teach me!!!
