A Pagan Night

Rustling of skirts
My heart took flight
Watching the pagans dancing
To the bonfire light
They were dancing for the departed on All Souls Night
Lighting candles one by one
They danced to their own beat of the drum
Dancing around and around
They danced to their pagan sound
I still watched them as the flames lept high
Watching each one dance and pass me by
Figures dancing in the darkness of night
Oh never let it end
All Souls Night
Still they danced before my eyes
They danced until the next sunrise
Oh the wonders, merriment, and beauty of night
Oh never let it end
All Souls Night
Yes never let it end
All Souls Night

Author notes

Note: All Souls Night is a Celtic celebration, at which time huge bonfires were lit not only to mark the new year, but to warm the souls of the departed.

My inspiration came while I was listening to Loreena McKennitt's song titled All Souls Night. Also All Souls Night is how Halloween originated I believe.

A thing to know about me is I never start out writing my poems with the intention of them ryming. If it rymes then that's just how the poem came out of me.

This is a great piece, I love it! The imagery is fantastic, it is well written, though it took me a few seconds to get into the rhythym of it, but it really does set the scene extremely well and flows very nicely. Great job!!!

Veri well penned . . . this poem had an air of grace and dignity little seen in this day and age. You have quite a bit of talent and it shows through in your clever use of diction and syntax . . . as well as the strength of the flow within your poem! Well penned, over all. This is a veri strong piece.

Keep penning . . . keep sharing . . . and much luck to you in the contest as well as any and all future poetic ventures!

This was very very nice. I liked the flow, and the concept, and having heard that song before, makes it even cooler. Congrats on a good write (finally getting one out ) and thanks for entering.
