Grandma

Dear Grandma,

I can't believe how much time has passed since you have been gone. It seems like just yesterday when we were laughing together in the kitchen, or when I used to tickle your head and feet.

There are so many things that I wish I could  have told you before you left our world. I missed a whole year in your life. I wish I could take that back. I wish I would have told you how much you really meant to me, even though I hardly came around toward the end.

You took care of me as a child through all the good and bad. Mom and I lived with you before she married dad, and I can still remember the tears you shed when Dad took us to live in Arnprior. I was very young but I understood that you were upset that we were leaving.

And when mom and Dad got divorced, there you were again. You took us in, only this time you had two more grandchildren. You were so happy. So was I. I truly missed you while we were away.

Then we moved again. I truly believe that it hurt you every time that we left, like taking something away and then dangling it in front of your face, but you knew that it was for the best.

Years went by and when I turned 16, you  did it again. You took me in when I was in a low part of my life. This is the time that I truly appreciated you. You have taught me so much throughout my life, and not once did I acknowledge it.

Well now I am getting married and I wish you were here. I want to tell you grandma, that I miss you and truly love you for all that you have done for not only me but our whole family.
It's just too bad I didn't say it while you were still here.

I'll love you for eternity.
Shannon

Shannon, this is indeed a beautiful letter. It is filled with honesty and sincerity as well as love. We are harder on ourselves than anyone would ever be. As we grow older we tend to let a few more things roll off our shoulders. We tend to have understanding that comes from age and experience. Grandma knew what it was like to be young. She knew what it was like to be preoccupied with things other than family. We all go through this stage and I am certain that she remembered her own youth. Do not beat yourself up for this my dear. You were always the tenderheart.... just like grandma. She knew that your love for her was present even those times when you weren't. You were just growing up and finding yourself. This is a beautiful letter that will be therapeutic for you. Writing and expressing your thoughts are a way to heal.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Very well written.

    Sooooooo Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shannon, OMG You have me tears of sadness and joy all at once here. This is sooooooooooooooooo beautiful, I know your grandma can see it and she has the biggest smile on her face right now. She is so proud of her family as she sees all from her place in heaven. She will be there the day you get married and her spirit will fill you with so much love and happiness.
Kelly really said it all about how she feels. The love for family is a very special one and it is unconditional in my eyes. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt piece with all of us, it is lovely and that's an understatement. Best wishes in the contest with this work, sounds golden to me. You get a standing ovation to go along with my applause. Love and blessings for you my dear friend, today and always.

Shannon, no matter the paths we take in life good or bad Grandma understood, she knew each one of her grandchildren and children loved her, oh especially you, you were her world shannon the first grandchild, no matter the wrong path you took as a teen she understood that she never once looked down upon you for that, she was proud of you she always was she told me and now that your getting married no your right you will not see her but she will be there standing beside you, as you take your vows with the man your going to spend the rest of your life with smiling down on you, she is so proud of the accomplishments you made in life and she could see it. We all wish that we could take back some of the things we had done or said before her passing but grandma already knew, that was her an understanding lady always worrying upon her grandchildren and children, this was a heartfelt story you had written brought tears to my eyes. Good luck ih the contest
