infinite asylum

here i walk
in this sleepless land of limitless possibilities,
once every few steps
gazing up at my azure sky,
my mind empty
of anything but occasionally
a nostalgic longing for those things i've lost.
is this heaven?
this impeccable land of mine, this exquisite escape?
it could be, i think in my suspended state
of uncaring,
but my senses tell me otherwise,
my dulled, oppressed senses.
wherever i spend eternity,
i know God will let me have my bright colors,
and here i only see the bright blue sky
and all else is neutral, faded.

however, for now this is peaceful,
a place for me
to let go of my troubles
and simply walk.

a fulfillment to my long-ago promise
to myself
to create my own getaway
a serene home for my mind
where nothing can go right or wrong.
here, God can reach me,
through the clear reflective water,
through my dormant state of mind.
