Running through regret
Ashamed of my past
Burdened by my debt
I was moving away fast
Still hoping to hear
He pursued and I prayed
By His grace He drew near
And began to serenade
“I didn't want you to feel this way
It's not what life was meant to be
And so for you, my friend, I'll take your shame
You can give it all to me”
I had spit on his face
Yet he still called me friend
Extending to me his love and grace
By His pardon, my soul began to mend
On a blood stained cross
He bore my shame
His pain and His loss
Was my joy and my gain
“'Cause you've wrestled demons every day
And they've dragged you to your knees
But in your weakness you will learn to find
That I will always be your strength”
He understood my struggles
He hears my desperate plea
And delivers from my troubles
Removing what blinds, so it's only Him I see
When I am sinful and shameful
Through my weakness and frailty
He is strong and powerful
Through his grace and charity
“In life or in death
Through joy or regret
And all of the secret things you have done
No matter what comes, my friend
Nothing can keep you from the love of God “

Author notes
A few days after falling, I was jogging with Third Day playing in my ears. As I was praying, I had a distinct impression to listen to the lyrics of "Rise Up." As I did, I felt God was speaking to me through the lyrics.
The quoted words are from the song "Rise Up" by Third Day.

I love this so much, because of how honest and truthful and inspiring it is. I also like how you included the quoted parts of the song and made it fit in perfectly with what you'd written. This is seriously just really, really awesome!

excellent
very nice write -
I loved this poem! The part I liked most was how the rhyme scheme didn't continue in the song to draw attention to the importance of the words.
