Ashley... I Hope You Dance

Missing image
Ashley,

You have grown into a beautiful, compassionate, loving, independent, confident, wonderful young woman.  In one year’s time, you will be leaving our home, spreading your wings and moving on to your next step in life’s journey.   I will always be here for you, but I know that you must go and experience your own life.  I know that we will see each other and we will talk often, but it will not be the same.  I will miss you so much, but I am so happy to see what a wonderful person you have become and am excited for the life experiences you have waiting for you.  When you are faced with opportunities in life, I hope that will take advantage of them and experience all great things that are offered to you…  I hope you dance, live, love and laugh to your heart’s desire, and will always be true to yourself.

I love you to pieces,

Mom

Author notes

Option #2, I Hope You Dance

This is for my daughter, Ashley.  She is 17 and going into her Senior year of high school.  I am already thinking about her leaving so am writing about it.

Ashley and I have a special thing where one of us says, "I love you to pieces," and the other ones says back, "I love you whole."

    great job

    • Thank you. She's 19 already and moving out of town this week - going to go experience life - that is what I told her I wanted her to do, right?

That is fantastic. I hope you gave that to her. I'm a senior this year, and getting a bit nervous about just leaving home. Going on my own. So, for Christmas I asked my family to write stuff about a memory or give me pictures. None of them did which was disapointing. I feel that something someone writes for someone can have a deeper feeling and will last longer than any gift. Beautiful writing. :-)

      Hello Helium Jones,

Thank you so much for visiting and your lovely comments! I did give it to her, she loves it. I also put it in a collage for her senior yearbook dedication page.

My daughter is also going out on her own after she graduates. I know she's a little nervous, but excited, too. She's moving out with a friend. Unfortunately for her, we are also moving when she moves out, so she won't even have her old home to come back to and visit, but we will still be close and she can visit us, which of course is the important part.

I'm sorry to hear your family didn't do what you asked for Christmas. They would have been such special Christmas gifts and not cost a thing. Strange how people won't listen sometimes to what someone really wants. I hope they really did listen and you get some nice pictures and memories to keep for graduation.

      Kimberly G.

Thanks for visiting, Melissa, and for the wonderful comments. Yes, building them up is good, and also letting them make their own choices slowly as they get older so when they get out of high school they actually have experience making their own choices, rather than making them all for them and then all of the sudden they are supposed to make ALL their own choices.

Thanks, again, and enjoy your contest!

Thanks SO much for sending me the link to this!!! This is awesome...

I think that parents NEED DESPERATELY to build their children up instead of knocking them around with insults and pointing out their every bad choice or traits... ya know?

    Anyway... this is awesome!!!

    Hi Tommy,

Thank you for explaining! I was kidding about the word sounding like a bad thing when I first read it, but I had looked it up, although not completely understood it, so appreciate the explanation.

No No No, alliteration is like this

It's a good thing to be goofy and not often get so down
but it's better to be brilliant with something profound.

This tool is when you the same consonants in a line
Top line is "g" and the second line is "b"

    You'd like these tools.

    Tommy,

Alliteration? That sounds like a bad thing. Had to look that one up... learn something new every day. I'm not up to speed on poetry forms, etc, I just write, so nice to learn new things on here. It is nice to be able to express my thoughts and feelings here, too. Thank you so much for your kind words and nice to have met you, too.

    Kimberly G,

Your words in this write are like a melody. I noticed
you have some fine alliteration here also. You gave some
great advice. I'm glad to have met you. Keep writing!

Thanks, Lindsie. Yep, she's a pretty girl. She just got her braces off about 6 weeks ago, right before time to take Senior pictures. Talk about exciting. Makes me think of my freshman picture (that would be 25 years ago... hahaha... cripes... ), I had short hair (not cute), glasses and braces... HARHARHAR... that is such a horrible picture, my gawd. Good thing I'm not famous or they'd get a hold of that and spread it across the globe... HAHAHAHAHA...

HAHAHAHAHAHA... You are funny. I know I'm annoying, but she knows I love her and she always comes back for more... We are really lucky that she talks to us (me and my husband - her stepdad) about things.

Thanks for reading and for the laughs, Lindsie!

    so sweet!

awwwwwwww! such a mommy-feeling! as the child I say mothers are annoying as all hell but I know my mom loves me and I under-appreciate her. So every once in awhile I bring her flowers or give her an extra hug or take out the garbage (when I'm at her house) or some small gesture that says I APPRECIATE YOU! because mom's have love for their children, as annoying as they are.
