midnight rose

midnight rose

these open pores
perspiring taints of fauvist colour
as hair and sweat insinuate
an imbroglio of body and soul

the scent of skin on skin
would quicken where we’d lay
bringing liberty on a breeze

so much said tacitly
that divides marrow from bone
yet each night whispers
incandescent imaginings
which by the morrow evanesce

to hear dawn’s early cry again
her hush fall softly on willing ears
though I lie here still
thought imprisoned by my midnight rose
