Mother and Child Embrace

I remember cradling you close to me

Holding you in my arms felt right

Singing you the sweet lullabies

As you drifted off to sleep at night

Looking into those deep blue eyes

The beautiful reflection of me

Safe within my caring embrace

No harm would there ever be

Only in a mother's loving arms

Can a young child securely rest

But then there comes a time when

letting go, is really what is best

I'll await for your welcomed return

Unveiling the emptiness, I've  faced

Filling the hollowness in my soul

With a mother and child embrace

Thank you Lilac, I am very appreciative of your praise on this piece. It had a much deeper meaning for me than just what I saw in the sculpture.

Congratulations on the gold awarded to this poem, it is well deserved... a very creative write, I can see the child being embraced when I look at the sculpture, but even without the picture your poem brings to life that very image...this write touched me in an emotional way

    Love and smiles for you

It's a cold, hard place that steels a mother's core, when her child
is gone.. I never would have gone there with this sculpture..
how brave and broken this poem is... I feel every word and
see it writen upon the picture. lapoe.

That's what I love about art, there is no "correct" way to interpret it, but there is what the creator was thinking when they created it and some people will interpret it that way. I am enjoying all of the different interpretations people are presenting, but it does make me feel good that someone, especially someone I was thinking of, sees what I was trying to portray.

Thanks Steve, I wasn't sure if I had the right interpertation but it is what I saw in it, and art is subjective as no two people will see the same thing in a piece.

Thank you Kimberly, I didn't know if I interperted the sculpture correctly but this is what I saw in it's beauty. Thanks so much for hosting this inspiring contest with your beautiful sculpture, I love it.

How absolutely beautiful! It is amazing how a picture can snap into perspective when the right interpretation is given.
A very strong, emotional write you have shared with us Carol.

This is beautiful, Carol. I had a deep "need" to create a sculpture of a mother holding a child she had lost and show her pain. Although it did not turn out the way I planned, it obviously still shows through in the sculpture for the right person. It was made with you and those who share the same pain in my thoughts. I wasn't going to publicize it in the contest yet, but I felt I wanted to share it now on your poem page. I know we cannot make it all better, but we are here for you when you need us and hopefully help along the way.

Thank you so much for your beautiful entry.
