she is slowly being garmented in her bridal gown
no red roses for her
white lace and fine linen, silk and slippery satin
Christmas-lily green woman
awaiting your bridegroom
weighted crown of sapphire
changing colors with her mood
a wisp of a girl, heart like a waiting valentine
to be found in a new step
to be discovered dancing in the dark
pure intent, perched on a stool
before a cold mirror
subtle shade of gray day’s eye
prepares her for investment
hands to her the seed of her bouquet
to be tucked in the space
between heart and breast
she reflects the purest intent,
shuffling bleached muslin underskirt
graying on the slide against slate
as she paces in the vestibule
perhaps her groom, a poet laureate,
panting in the wings
will know her and give her his name
her father shall give her up
to the arms of the sun and heat
and to warm night shadows
where, behind the closed door,
she shall be had
but rise, come morning, no less green
but smelling of roses, citrus,
and dancing in new shoes
a belly full of promise
ever young and burgeoning
she is dressed, again and again
in her wedding night arraignment
to dance new beginnings to life
ever new, ever lasting winter consummation.
Author notes
another way to think of it
"Love at the lips was touch
as sweet as I could bear,
and once that seemed too much..."

what a pretty poem and so interesting to see which quote played into its conception. I saw a wedding contest up yesterday you should put this in.

Wonderful, again

Very lovely and soothing piece of poetry here. Eloquent simplicity. You're a true poet, prolific and grand. Wonderful poem. ~Mark

"subtle shade of gray day’s eye prepares her for investment hands to her the seed of her bouquet to be tucked in the space between heart and breast" Sighhh...How very grand, my Sister...Such immaculate language, sifted through serenity & Grace...Incredible, indelible imagery sighing across the horizon & landing upon the pages of this dream called Life...Beautifully poetrayed, Carol...
