~Footprints in Time~

I believe that it’s fate,
that you get selected,
to receive a blessing
when it’s least expected.

You think you’re not ready,
couldn’t you be, maybe?
When suddenly you find out
that you’re having a baby?

Deep inside of your heart
is where it grows from,
a precious new person,
a new life to welcome.

You won’t ever be ready,
not even if you plan.
Take it one day at a time,
do the best that you can.

No parent is perfect,
we all make mistakes.
Every child in the world
causes parent’s heartaches.

Once you’ve went through the pain
you’ve counted fingers and toes,
the bond that you discover
is one each parent knows.

It’s a feeling unmeasured,
a feeling that defies,
just hold onto your baby,
look deep into their eyes.

The love that you feel,
it is truly sublime,
captured by your child
and their footprints in time.

Author notes

Even when we plan to have children, we're never truly ready for all that it entails. You grow as a parent as your child grows. None of us begin parenthood knowing everything. We don't know everything by the time our kids are grown and moved out! It's a learning experience each and every day. I have eight kids, none were expected or planned. They were just meant to be. They are my blessings.

1) Write a poem about single parenting.

    What perfect sentiments

This is so full of insights and love. Children are such a blessing, but not always do some appreciate that reality. This made for a very wonderful verse. Truly a great write.

First of all, that photo is so wonderful and sets up the rest of the poem with a smile on my face. Your first stanza tugs at my heartstrings. I appreciate your encouraging, loving words. 8 children! Wow, you are a strong woman. I am about 2 1/2 mo along and I already feel overwhelmed. But your poem brought me up from my low! Thank you so much for sharing your words and thank you so much for honoring my contest with this write.

These are heartfelt words...and yes, every parent makes mistakes, whether the expect they will or not. It would be so much easier if each child came with a book of instructions.lol...nicely penned.
