missing in action (are you there?)

My life has been a tangled web,
a mass of lessons to learn,
I've learnt to smile, to cherish and love,
I've learnt to cry and yearn.

Every day a new mistake,
a teaching of fate to know
that some things you have to hold on to,
and some things you have to let go.

My biggest fault in life is that
I often confuse the two,
I cling on to the things that mean nothing in life,
and lose hold of the things that do.

Last night I was lying in my bed,
thoughts rattling round inside my mind,
I thought of the lovers i'd tried to keep,
and of one i'd left behind.

This man and I were never together,
we never made love or held hands,
we never saw each other apart from online,
but in the time that we shared we made plans.

I look at a picture of him on the net,
and my stomach ties in a knot,
he made me feel like a princess,
yet I didnt know what i'd got.

I lost contact and I'm regretting it deeply,
I'm praying he'll call me again,
I'm desperatly hoping there's still noone else,
and maybe we'll take back what we had then.
