Simple and silent
He could not even say
ABC or count 123
But he knew how to love
And he knew how to hug
To brighten anyone's day
Every Christmas
His mother would read
The story of
The baby born in a manger
How the angels sang
And the shepherds came
How kings brought treasure
Because God's love
Is beyond measure
Every Christmas Eve
He would listen and smile
All the while
As his mother read
Putting him to bed
One Christmas morning he woke
And uttered the only words he ever spoke
“Baby Jesus has come”
He smiled and he died
His mother cried
For she knew
Her son had gone home
Simple and silent
He could not even say
ABC or count 123
But he knew how to love
And he knew how to hug
To brighten anyone's day
