My mama told me long ago don’t ever play with worms
They’re nasty and they’re slimy and all covered up with germs
I listened to my mama and I did just what she said
I didn’t play with them, I put them in my sister’s bed
It really was a lot of fun to hear her scream and shout
When Sissy jumped into her bed and quickly jumped back out
I’m glad I took my mom’s advice and it was lots of fun
Even though my mama wasn’t pleased with what I’d done
My mama told me as I grew, don’t smoke a cigarette
You’re just a little boy and not quite ready for them yet
I listened to my mama and I never took a puff
I stayed away from cigarettes and other nasty stuff
My buddy took a smoke one time while I was there to see
He thought it was pretty cool showing off in front of me
But it turned out to be the funniest thing I’d ever seen
As I watched my buddy choke and turn a lovely shade of green
My mama told me if I swore there’d be a price to pay
I soon found out the awful taste of a bar of pink Camay
It was always better to avoid those little troubles
Unless I wanted to be blowing lots of soapy bubbles
My mama told me lots of things throughout the many years
If I had listened every time I would have saved some tears
Looking back I’ve found my mama’s words were pretty stout
And I can see she really knew just what she talked about
