She briefly pauses, poised for flight
Sniffing the cool morning air
Looking around in early sunlight
Assuring there is no menace there
She cautiously makes her way below
Beckoning to her son and daughter
Blinking in light reflected from snow
They all sip at the cold, sweet water
Mother on alert as pups romp and play
She calls them back to her side
'Tis time to return to the routine of each day
As she hunts and they sleep and hide
I often wonder if creatures like this
See the beauty that in their home exists
