Empty idols empty me

My heart in need
refused to heed
the warnings of my God
So apt to stray
I went away
-a dangerous path I trod.

Enticed by devils,
men and me,
I pursued desires aplenty.
Pleasure I tasted
but my soul I wasted
and wretchedness
wrung my heart at last.

So fast I became
empty.
Listless
soul-less
lost
alone.

But the one whose Spirit
called my spirit
into being
seeing
my plight
stooped in love
drew me above
By Christ
severed the idols clutch
and filled me anew

With much
much more
than I ever dreamed.

Author notes

This one i wrote some years ago. It uses 'idol' in a non-positive way, in biblical terms (if i understand rightly), as a substitute for God. A religious theme, but also personal, reflecting feelings of emptiness, as a result of being disappointed. But then there is a remarkable revelation of Diving initiative, that is, God coming to me, even without me seeking... and bringing me a sense of acceptance and love.

Any response is welcome.

    A BEAUTIFUL POEM!!!!

Good morning, You have penned a very beautiful poem of how you found the love of God without seeking it. He does seek us out and sends others into our lives to strengthen our faith. He has done this for me the past three years since I accepted Him in my heart. Thank you for sharing and stay strong in your faith. Always here to help. You take care, Sandy Blessings to you. Sandy

Most awesome piece here... one that I can relate to quite easily...

I love this actually... it's personal and shows how He pursues and invites us, in love, to draw near to Him... exceptional job on this!

A well written piece that flows smoothly and with grace... I LOVE Your author comments as well..

I'm adding you to my favorites list for sure and will be reading more of yours!!!
