I loved your eyes and short brown hair
but you were made for another
you loved many, not often, but well
and I wonder if you shed tears in the privacy of your room
as I did, too many times.
You were the one who showed me how to love
although forbidden, I loved you still
and now your stillness reminds me
to take love where its offered,
to never say no to a passionate affair -
no matter how wrong in the eyes of the world.
You overcame adversity to bring love
I overcame lust to bring hardship,
swayed by the world I surrendered
and gave you up without a fight.
If I could, I would fight for you now
instead you are done with fighting
done with love and I realize
how very much I loved you.
Goodbye is not enough, so I say simply - I love you.

I loved this Kethry. No wonder your own my favorites, lol. I love how simple the monologue is. It is easy to see this happening in real life.

A fine example of dramatic monologue in free verse, indeed. The mood created is poignant and wistful; the inferences the reader can draw are beautifully understated.

My Goodness
WOW ---- My Kethry, I don't know what you had for breakfast this morning but it's surely working. This poem is alive and spectacular to the mind of we lesser folk who can only look on and wonder. Full marks Ms Kethry, and a three more from me as icing. (I'm of your spell (be gentle with me)) ----- Thank you (twice).
