Why a waistcoat?

I can never understand it.
Some men go out half-dressed.
A suit and tie are needed
If you want to pass the test.
But ask anyone of discernment,
“Who stands out from the rest?”
They’ll be always sure to tell you,
A waistcoat man is best!!

Please tell me what you think

  • I absolutely love men that know how to dress and dress handsomely!! It shows they care about themselves. I do enjoy your waistcoat in your picture. It's positively charming.

    I love a waistcoat!

So what about the waiscoat WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-men?

I wear those too: with beads and with glitter; with weaves and with shimmer ... Oh. You waistcoat man. You are different and it is perfectly JEFF.

    Blessed be.

    • Somewhere I have a poem about meeting a lady on the train who had a black waistcoat with two gorgeous gold dragons, one on each side. I adore waistcoated women.

I can but guess ... to be protected by dragons, in gold on black? I am sure you showed her some respect?
  • I don't know what is a waistcoat. {Mommy explains}
I think they should rather get dressed

This is great, if you ever get invited to a party, you can write that down and hand it to the host in your waistcoat.

What, pray tell, is a waistcoat?
Don't you wear a coat on arms, over shoulders?
I think the "best dressed" is a naked bloke.

      In lands across the sea
      Where English isn't spoken
      A vest instead you'll see
In an accent that is broken!

I would love to write a rhyming response to your poem as well, but I can't think of anything clever right now...

I really enjoyed reading this little poem and your comment on my poem though.
    Thanks for sharing this!
    Keep up the excellent work!

Cool! Really? Hmm... I'll try and remember to tell that to my brother. Wow. The rhyme with this piece was really exceptional. I think that this would really make several people go out and buy a waistcoat. No kidding! Good job...again.

Belated welcome to AP. Pleased to see you become part of the community here so quickly. Nice to see you reading, commenting, and writing. How true this used to be for the older generation - for the younger ones, anything seems okay these days - blue jeans for weddings even, and not country ones at that! Liked this, but thought the flow was somewhat held back by all the periods. So many these days use no punctuation at all, and although I was first aghast by this practice, I can now also write that way and not feel badly about it. Keep writing...

is that all that ye 'ave in your wardrobe? i am thinking of the closet to narnia, filled wi' waistcoats... oh dear, there are going to be a many intresting dreams now... look at what ye 'ave done. now i will agree that i rather like waistcoats, provided there be nara a thing under it... (never mind me, my brain wanders where 'twill.) glad for this wee write, as places a grin on this lasses face.

Counting waistcoats is a forbidden activity, let us say I have "several". Enough to wear a different one every day for 3 weeks, with quite a few special occasion ones for good measure, fortunately a waistcoat is small so the wardrobe doesn't need to reach back to Narnia. Today's has a flashing lime green script written Jeff on one side. There also tend to be flashing badges and wonderful ties.
Now a lady in a waistcoat with nothing underneath is good! Especially if the underneath is underneath in 2 meanings.

We all have our idiosyncrasies, and some prefer to wear informal clothes, even at work!
Love the humour, you have very nice rhymes.

      Thanks for that.

I have no objection to the casually dressed, makes me stand out more, and my waistcoats always do stand out! I shall eventually get pictures of them on my website but until then I've just added another waistcoat poem here.
