She was playing Spades for Skittles
while she smoked her lilac cigarettes.
He was home on leave but he still wore his camouflage.
He had given her his dog tags as a token of his love.
Being a Marine, he would take them back tomorrow.
Her love would be toxic but he had no way of knowing.
The last thing he would have called her was whore.
Rain with drops like jewels in the moonlight, fell from a thundercloud outside their window.
There was nothing but the freeway between him and getting lucky
They lit the candles and turned the meter to zero.
Ride Marine.
Ride in the starlight till there are starbursts.
War is hell.

Well, this is a good poem , no doubt...
but not quite what I had in mind...I was hoping for poems that focussed more on the city of Las Vegas itself.
Still, an admirable job you've done here!
Thank you for sharing this!
