The Secret

Hiding the truth so well
yet aching to be set free.
The pain and heartache
that comes with keeping a secret,
one you know will tear her apart.

The emotions become overwhelming,
as the guilt increases within your mind.
Frustration rises with every second,
as you tremble and pace the room.

You search and ponder continuously,
throughout the night for the right words.
You try to ignore the excuses,
as they eat up every idea that comes.

Images of what she will look like,
the tears that will stream down her face.
All of the pain that she will experience
as her world comes crashing down upon her,
all because of your selfish heart.

I'm sorry I never meant to hurt you
won't calm her down and make her understand,
for the pain will never subside within.
Anger and sadness will envelope the room
as her fragile and tender heart breaks,
while you hold it in your hands.

Very good indeed! It shows a wide range of emotions and captures the readers attention from the start. I especially like the way you describe his guilt but you also show he does have some compassion as he does feel for her pain and tears. I look forward to reading more. Thanks for sharing this, I enjoyed the read!

  • congrats on silver! this really shows what the situation is like! It a lot of emotion in it! i liked this poem very much!
  • Congrats on the silver! This is flawless! I was so consumed in the poem that I wasn't even looking for errors anyhow... you have captured the situation accurately and perceptively, painting a clear and emotional picture in the reader's mind. I felt like I was there!

  • Well, you pretty much said it, didnt you? A very great description of what happens just before you have to tell someone something you really dont want to bring yourself to say. The emotion and description were both raw and real.

    Well done!

Wow. Jeremy. This pretty much says exactly what hiding a secret is like. It can be awful and overwhelming. Best to never hide secrets or even keep them if they have the possibility of causing damage to another life.

Well done here! Congrats on the cup!

OMG!! I have tears in my eyes!! I love your last line "her fragile and tender heart breaks, while you hold it in your hands." This is soo true, I think that everyone can relate in some way to this write, secrets suck! However people have them, and they think that everything will be ok, no one will get hurt... But often times it is the opposite. People get hurt, I think that coming clean would repair alot of heartache as well as the headaches. Great write!!

Ahhh yes this explains it well. I've been in this position before and it's no fun. But a necessary part of life, the break-up. If you think about it it is one thing that helps us move on and become better and more wise people I think, as most forms of heartache do. Great write, well done on the trophy, very cool

    Well felt

Anger and sadness will envelope the room. What a great line. I think we have all been through this at one time or another. Rather a breakup or some that you lost. Either way it is heartache no matter how you look at it. I also like the line as her fragile and tender heart breaks, while you hold it in your hands. Oh how we wish we could just take the pain away so that they won't be hurt. I have wanted many a times to do this but to no avail we learn with this. Keep up the good work. I enjoy reading your wonderful work. May your words keep floating like a swan on a lake.
