[ My Eyes ]

Missing image

Look into my eyes and tell me what you see

Am I the girl that you always thought I would be? 

Look into these grey-blue orbs and tell me, do I cry? 

I know you see the girl I am, what I do just to get by  


Look into my soul tonight and tell me, who am I?

I know you hear me every time I stifle a soft sigh 

Do you pretend to think of me as happy instead of truly heartbroken?

I know you’ve heard every mumbled word that I’ve ever spoken  


Peer into my room at dark and listen for the sobs

You ask me “are you okay?” and I feel my head automatically nod 

Do you know that you’ve created a monster, hideous and deceitful?

Did you know that I would be sorry, sad and pitiful?  


Peer into this hole that I literally call my heart

Didn’t think I’d be this way, ever, from the start 

I hide these scars behind fake smiles but know I’m truly sad

I guess I never knew things could ever get this bad  


Stare into my eyes and tell me what you see?

Is this the girl that I’m really supposed to be? 

Living for nothing wasn’t such an easy feat

Stare into my heart and listen for a beat

    this is nice. And beautilly written. I can relate completely. I love the rhyme. The emotion is also very powerful. Everything flows together nicely. Wonderful work, and great write.

    Really good though, for the first 2 verses i didnt even notice it rhymed, till i started looking for it because I know you ALWAYS have to rhyme. =P

    You know what... just by writing that, im going to bet you up with a spork at school... so....BEWARE!!
    Anyway back to the poem! I LOVE IT!!!!! i must say that the picture doesnt go with the theme at all(sarcatically)Nice work...again youve woven the words so they flow perfectly. I need to learn how to do that... ok well anyway Great job =}) haha a guy with a mustache

    Great job cori! I love it! In that "hole" you call you "heart", I know something is in there... I just know it... I'm asian.
    In the third stanza- I really like it... It is soo true, the question "are you okay" seems to get old and i even tend to lie and nod that every thing is fine.
    (once again) I love it!!

    I had a therapy appointment today, and my train of thought was insanely similar.. So this kind of hits a nerve with me.

    Beautiful still, refined though Raw. Elegant. And so true it hurts.
