The lavender pin

This delicate little ribbon
helps cancers that are hidden.
It helps pay for Macmillan nurse's
who work to help with hope that the

cancer reverses.

This sad disease takes lives away
and has no care for that's its dismay.
Cancer has no barriers it is unfair
it does not stop once its there.
I think they do a worth while job
as if I did this job  today

I would sob the minutes away.

It matters to me this charity
as I have a long family history
living with cancer is so sad to see.

This was well written. I had cervical cancer. So this poem hits home. I also have a brain tumor, which I have suffered from since the age of 12. I have had two surgeries. One they placed a shunt in & the second they had to revise it. I am still healing from my second one which was done on June 6th of this year. I don't know why but the second one was the hardest. I am sorry that your Mom has breast cancer. My Mom had a lump removed & had thyroid cancer. So it seems to run in my family as well as yours. Blessed Be! If you ever want to talk IM me, I will always be there for you. ~~Iridessa MoonFlower~~

    Wow how lovely!

What a commendable write, so worthy the cause too, the Macmillan nurses are angels.
My late friend Norma was nursed to the end by a Macmillan nurse so this has a special value to me, as they did a splendid job for her and this highlights that wonderful work.
You have penned an outstanding poem here well worthy of so many good reviews.
Lovely poem and work and best of luck in all contests with this hope it wins Gold.
Brilliant, well done bravo! Bless you for this.

  • wow, that is great. Cancer is a sad subject, that is often ignored in the poetry world. Good topic choice, and I thought it was a sweet poem.

  • Outstanding

Cancer is such a difficult disease to deal with. My sister had cancer and she took a while to get better though she has recovered- she now works with terminal cancer patients helping them to die pain free and with dignity. I thought this was an excellent poem that really brought the message home we should be supporting people like the macmillan nurses as they do such a good job. An excellent poem that raises awareness.

Beautifully written on a subject that is so sad...cancer is so strong and unpredictable, too many suffer from it or worse...my uncle died of cancer and it was the saddest death to me...he was such a big strong man who withered to the size of a child in months before his death...very moving and well written...
Congrat's on all the well deserved trophies...
Thank you for sharing your beautiful soul,

After having found out that I have cervical cancer, this poem holds a lot of emotion, worth, and weight. Beautifully expressed, and it shows your grateful and love-able side. Congrats on your trophies and good luck with new ones.
  • I enjoyed reading this from beginning to end. My mother too is suffering from cancer and it seems so unfair. A good write on a sad and touching subject.

  • So sad this cancer

Yes if the world would pay a penny a day health care would cover all .I so wish one day this cancer will be a cure and our loved ones were safe .But until then we all should chip in to make it happen

I don't believe I have ever read anything that seemed so knowledgable. It is sad to have seen so much of cancer. Your pain from this is quite evident in your words. This poem reminded me to add a prayer for those with cancer and their families every night. I think this is very powerful. It even brought tears to my eyes. It flowed so well it was easy to read. I really enjoyed reading even though it was so sad.

Very emotional write that unfortunately many can relate to. My own mother passed from breast cancer at the age of 29. She was pregnant with me when diagnosed. I was 14 months old when she succumbed to the cancer. So sad, and she has been sorely missed all these years. Thanks for this poem..Patty

Congratulations on the gold. This is well deserving...such a terrible devastation that cancer brings to lives. Thank you for sharing with with the library.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sorry that cancer plagues your family.

I hate how, like Huntress said, cancer is so in-discriminative and can affect good, loving people who don't deserve such horrible things; I'm not saying that anyone deserves cancer... I'm just saying it's a shame that it happens to such beautiful people sometimes.

Tale care, and, this is an amazing poem... keep on writing... Laura.

cancer has no bounderies, it does not descriminate on who it affects. good poem, good luck in the contest

  • I like the poem, good flow and rythem. If we end up using it, we'll probably add to it, saying that "today there is hope" going off of your "sad to see" so that it ppl won't have to live with it anymore!!
    thanks for entering!!

  • I thought that this was really good. Great piece of writing. Well done for this. My family too have a history of cancer. My dear father passed away from it, in the year 2000. I have a theory about such cancer charities though. For 50 - 60 years people have been giving money for cancer research, 50-60 YEARS and yet, we are no nearer finding a cure??? My theory is this, I believe that a cure HAS been found for cancer, but that the relative medical authorities will not put it out on the public market because it would then mean so many companies 'going to the wall'.

A cure would bankrupt certain medical foundations. I have always thought this, simply because within all of those 50 to 60 years of research, no one can say to me that they HAVE NOT FOUND A CURE YET?? It is very strange.

Yes, we have found ways to alleviate certain cancers, but as yet, as they tell us, no cure? I don't believe that. My father and millions of others have died horrifically because of this terrible plague and yet the medical professions still say they are no nearer to finding a complete cure?

You have to stop and think then, WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY THAT PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN TO CANCER RESEARCH, WHERE IS IT? AND WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH IT?

Thank you for this piece as I can see why it won gold.
But ask yourself the question that I have just posed, and think deeply about it.

    Wayne Leon

I agree with you whole heartedly.I'm from Erie Pennsylvania and I.m sure you have heard of Kanzius- not sure if this is right but close and his research on radio waves and I will like to see how this turns out.We all know big buisiness rules the government.
