Gather around my children
And I will tell you a tale
Be assured I speak no lies
But long ago during the fall
There was one among the dark angels
Who fell not once but twice
When the sky was in flames
As the unearthly battle struck
One immortal stood alone outside the gates
Amid the war he saw the horror he’d sided with
So when the serpent’s minions were cast out
Toward the earth the conflicted one fled down
The lone one hid and wandered far
But he was not unseen as his body became twisted and dark
So to counter the stray fiend
Heaven sent forth one of their greatest knights
A winged maiden clad in crystal armour
Whose sword and body glowed with the light of life
The two battled on through day and night
But though they traded deadly blows
Neither one could best the other’s might
Until at last the dark one threw down his sword
And knelt down inside her comforting light
And she could see sorrow inside his coal-like eyes
However now she saw him
In his weak and fading state
And saw no unholy monster there
His damned visage was actually fake
Instead she saw another beautiful angel
A fool who’d made an old and terrible mistake
So instead of finishing him like she should have done
She embraced the repentant fallen one
And so you see how the fiend fell twice?
Once he’d met the compassionate angel from above
Not only had he fallen from grace
But now he’d also fallen in love
The knight withdrew back to heaven
And did not send her lover
To that unnameable fiery place
Instead she spared his life
And henceforth she would live in shame
Known forever as an angel in disgrace
But the fiend couldn’t forsake her
And so he spread his wings of fire
And soared up toward the city of light
But the guards saw him as monstrous nova
He begged them to let him see his angel
But instead they attacked him on sight
Once the guards had brought to her
The chained and helpless fiend
The angel was commanded to fulfil her duty
And banish the demon for his past misdeeds
She held up her sword and their eyes met
Then he looked up to her and said…
“Please don’t weep for me
My prismatic love.
For my transgression I deserve this.
But know that I will always think of you,
Even amid my endless torture
Deep within that dark abyss.”
So to send him back where he belongs
She had to smite her dark love
Though no tears were shed by the celestial throng
There were no sounds of victory either
For all her sisters knew
That from now on heaven would be hell to her
So my children what do you believe?
Was the rebellious angel a fool
For seeing some beauty in the beast?
Or was she perhaps the wisest
Because she saw not what he had become
But saw him for what he might have been?

Deep with that dark abyss.
within
I really love this. It's beautiful. I adore this type of epic, and an epic it is. My characters in roleplaying always seem to see the beauty within the beast.
And end up falling in love with them. ♥ I supposed that's why I like this so much.
