(Story) Under The Impression, part One: Introduction

Contrary to popular belief, life is easy to understand. Very easy. In fact, the only thing holding us back from complete comprehension of the world and all of her processes is the tiny and unfortunate fact that we are only human, and as such, we tend to vastly over-complicate things which should be as simple and fun as writing your own name in crayons all over the bedroom walls. The insects, however, seemed to have it mastered when they dominated the Earth - that is, until we came along with our enormous wooden clubs and unstoppable desire to fornicate - and they learned to live together, even if some were prey and the rest were predators, but what’s a little cannibalism in light of harmony? It might be true to say that the insects are somewhat optimistic about the whole thing, we don’t know for sure because since they were usurped by marauding, hairless monkeys, they haven’t talked to us much - but one thing is for sure, they seem to be quite happy to wait around for us all to kill ourselves so they can take back what was theirs all that time ago.
Anyway, talk of global mutiny and inevitable apocalypse is hardly fitting for the beginning of a story, so let’s start again, shall we?
