'ol bogey lie deep 'neath the dam
nobody fetch 'ol bogey in
him lie down there and whisper
him secrets to the dark, eternally
one time they went down there to find a body
said divers saw flatheads the size of school buses
eyes the size of dinner plates
alligators in the sewers
alligators in the sewers
all I know
those Oklahoma summer nights
when the air is hot 'n sticky
the oil pumps beat tom toms on the wild wind
I look across those muddy ripples
think I see them cats
rising in the murky waters of my mind
Author notes
There is a familiar urban legend that catfish the size of school buses live in some of the Oklahoma lakes. "Rules Suck"
