G’day David, so what’s up mate?
we haven’t spoken much of late
but that is how life sometimes goes,
not seeing further than my nose,
yet you know I am always here
when you need a friendly ear.
Now grab your coat without debate,
we’re heading into town by eight
to strut our stuff and maybe pose,
take in some sights or a few shows,
then to the pub for a large beer,
throw some arrows, laugh with good cheer.
So now we’re out you can relate
all troubles piled high on your plate
and while we sit in quiet repose
mulling over life’s highs and lows,
we’ll talk straight from peer to peer
and hope your inner soul will hear.
When feeling under life’s tonne weight
there is no point to being irate,
nor meekly taking knocks and blows
forced upon you by chancing foes,
don’t drown in sorrow or shed a tear
nor live your life in constant fear.
Inner strength is the desired state
you have within or may create
which, to each problem that life throws
allows the joy to thumb your nose,
and make known to all far or near
that to sound choices you’ll adhere.
When time weighs heavy do not wait,
advances are not all chance fate,
free mind is given to oppose,
free spirit given to compose
a future that is bright and clear
which starts right away, not next year.
We may not put the world quite straight
though its good to talk, at any rate,
nights out must end but no one knows
what good tomorrow might expose,
a glass half empty may also appear
as a glass half full of finest beer.
Author notes
This poem is for David, to hopefully cheer him up a little, just as he has cheered me up when I needed it in the past.

Wonderful Work :) although I would've like to cut the as out of the last verse. And I'm glad I'm writing this, and not saying it :)

Great poem. My only suggestion would be to add own in this line - "not seeing further than my nose," it just seemed to me as though it was rolling off the tongue strange. But perhaps I was just reading it out of rhythm a little. It is of course your work, and only my thoughts.
Great write thou, congrats on the silver trophy!

so what seemed missing, dull or numb
finds second life, while tongue once dumb
tunes into music of the soul
and recognition one's not sole

If this doesn't do the trick I shall be very surprised-a very well thought out poem which is filled to the brim with friendly concern and deep love-David is most fortunate to have such a dear and thoughtful friend like yourself-Very best of luck with this-

A great poem to cheer a good friend. I'm sure he will both smile and appreciate your words, there's nothing better than a night out, with good food and drink and the chance to enjoy each others company.
A well written cheer up message.
All the best...Sue

DAMN,EVEN I COULD USE A BLOOMIN SIP OF BEAR RIGHT NOW - AS I CAN'T HAVE ONE FOR 15 DAYS AND IT'S BEEN 12 DAYS NOW!
I'm getting mighty thirsty and a night out on the town with you sounds like a mighty fine way to pack up ones troubles into an old kit bag and throw them away into the deep, blue sea! A fine piece filled with humour, compassion, and love - and written by a beautiful woman with a heart of gold! IF this one doesn't cheer up the David that this contest is for - I don't for the life of me know - what will! GOOD LUCK in the contest with this wonderful piece, Lily - and from the nose lines - could it be that you have a prominent British nose just like me - that's a cross between Pete Townsends and Ringo's! HE! HE! This piece makes me jealous that I am so far away from you as I could use a night on the town with you but only if you agree to wear your tightest, shortest, and hottest little black or red dress! LOL!!! After a night like that something tells me that one of us - if not both - may end up in Hot Water - and deserve a spanking, too!
Peace & Love!
Earl.

Oh if this piece will put a smile upon his fave that will stretch fom ear to ear. It is just an amazing piece. I could almost heart your voice as I read the poem and I just giggles away with each passing line. I now you wil do very well in the contest....

Wonderful poem Sue. We all have choices, it isn't all down to fate. This made me smile and I am sure with YOU a true friend in his corner he will soon be feeling a whole lot better and on course to returning to his usual self. We all need friends who care and that are able and willing to show they care in our time of need. Brilliant! Bottoms up to good night out and sharing a good old chin wag!
Good Luck with this
Love ~sugar~
