Bravery Mounted

Before the longest day its blood shed, dwell
again honed in the tunnel as the observer
vivid gathered letters of the victor. Fell
early in the battle their were casualties. Server
reared its blue, red , and white tempered rip
Years blazed its hell on the mountain’s victory

Morning came as six mounted its flag grip,
often compelled of the assault brought contradictory
used in the grenades to flush his assailant
night as shifting the outcome; its victor won.
The battle as controversary argued against monovalent,
engaged a mountain to display a flag run,
done its summit of many whose death begun.

  • I've seen the statue in Virginia... that was breath taking along with the Marines sunset parade -- is especially moving.  I believe both to commemorate the battle of Iwo Jima.

    History of the Sunset Parade
On Nov. 10, 1954, the 179th birthday of the United States Marine Corps, a bronze monument modeled after the famous photo of the flag raising on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima, was unveiled at the Arlington National Cemetery. President Dwight D. Eisenhower dedicated the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial to all Marines who had died to keep their country free.

If you ever get the chance to see it, it is well worth it.

This event is one I hold very dear, my grand-father died in this war. ~ I enjoyed the poem. Very touching.

Thanks so much for entering the contest -- I enjoyed the read.
