Drinking's Folly

slurred in slosh
of insecurity's grief
self perceived
that no one
had...but he.

contained himself in
misery
consigned by grief
of losing past
loves...

ever reaching out
in greed, to take the hand
of strength to have
it crumble
to ash in his hand...

what is the cure then?
perhaps to quit judging
himself so harshly
seeing lights only
reflected from pity's
folly
in the bottom
of his glass...

wish upon him
only tomorrows
fulfilled without pity
nor judgment,
but joy and freedom
from past.

Perhaps then too
he will cease to
misunderstand.

Love's greatest joy
is acceptance in whole
not part of a person.

Author notes

Although happiness was once sought, it is a fool's errand and I will not interfere with the ways of the Universe or it's plan. I seek no more. I know now..my lesson has been hard earned, through bitter experience. Such is love. He has others he loves, and love him in return. Who am I to interfere? He can have his women and his drink. I'm moving on.

He would never be true to you. Better to find that out now than later. It is a fine piece of poetry. Keep writing and growing in poetry.

    Hoodwinked!!

Power to you at this moment when sudden realizations free you. I'm glad you have the strength to move on when the time calls for it. I like the way you formatted this piece. It adds interest to the eye as you read. Your word choice was also strong and I thought that you used words I could relate to and understand. There was a small part here that I would have changed.
to take the hand...to have it...
If you could somehow word that differently I think it would add more depth to your piece. Your emergence from under this man's wing is a beauty to watch. I wish you the best of luck!

Acceptance In Whole ... or maybe Kingpins ... whatever the title is a great write. Filled with reflection ... I might also go for "Only Tomorrows" sounds like a movie
  • Reading this and it seems full of emotion, and not happy emotion either. The person described seems to me (completely incomplete) as though they have realized that love, true love accepts the whole person, but unfortunately society and many individuals are incapable of such. I may be totally off, however which is not unheard of. This poem made me uneasy. Hope all is well with you.
