A stiff neck.

Her neck ached
for weeks

the first doctor
said rest

a week later
another doctor
called the ambulance

and a third doctor
cried
and said
two weeks
maybe a month.

      It was at the University Medical centre. She had a tumour growing on a cervical vertebra, was before the invention of CT scanning and was probably undetectable until it was already inoperable, it was over 30 years ago.
      She stayed at Uni doing her course until she went into hospital on a Monday morning and died two days later.
