Not even a proper haiku

phone rings at eleven thirty--
"Oh, Johnny, what have you done now?"
just three of us left.

Author notes

Three days ago, my older brother was taken to the hospital; he'd ODd on Zanex and Ambien. Since, as I heard the tale, he'd taken the pills and then, within half an hour, asked his girlfriend to drive him to the hospital, I figured it was more a case of telling her "look what you've done to me!" than a desire to die.

We got a call at midnight, night before last, that he'd checked himself out against medical advice, gone home and put a bullet through his brain...and I can't even write a proper eulogy.

Oh my. Extremely powerful poem, this.

I am so very sorry to hear this. I offer you my condolences; I am reassured a little to know that you have wonderful support at home, and here on AP. But still, losing a brother is losing a part of yourself.

you have written what your heart has spoken and your tears flow softly through your words...the loss of a brother is a loss of a piece of oneself...i feel he has found peace now and would want your understanding

sending words of comfort from my heart to yours

I had a younger brother who finally managed to end his life, it affects us more than we can even express. I just read your last three poems and my heart feels for you. I wrote one about my little brother. http://allpoetry.com/poem/4392461
Just now, it hits me that I need to write something for the brother that I still have.

  • I'm sorry to hear of you're loss, I'll be thinking of you. This poem is beautiful. I've always loved the emotional power haikus have, and you have used the simplicity of this style to great effect.
Once again I offer you my condoleances and I hope you are alright.

I am so sorry for your loss Eric. I wrote a poem for my Dad when he died. I can't read it without cracking a little. You have my deepest sympathies.

I'm so sorry Eric. I can't think of anything else to say other than I am so sorry.
