Paper Regrets

A simple scrap of paper,
Embodies a fearful tribute.
Vacant, message unwritten.
Such inadequate amplitude,
For a note so great.

Powerless and self betrayed,
Gratitude finally engraved.
Though past expiration,
Insufficient, I should not have waited.

So beneath somewhere lies,
In bitter dark earth,
A rose with a tie.
Scrawled bestowal faulty,
My words now the departed attend:
Thank you for all you taught me.
You made me the man that I am.

Author notes

So I guess most of mine are about death. I wrote this the week after my grandfather's funeral.
