My Home, the City of Angels

LAX bids me farewell from my home.
Off towards an spectacular journey.
I see the famous purple cafe
And the colorful pillars
that change every few seconds or so.
But as the plane leaves the ground,
I see the city for itself.
The orange sparkly lights twinkle in the night.
Towering skyscrapers shine
pale blue in the evening's sky.
The vast sunset, reflected in the mirror
that is the ocean.

I recall walking down those sandy beaches,
leaving footprints in the sand.
The lazy sea, gobbling them up
and I walk calmly away from the beautiful sight.
My heart breaks, as I stray away,
towards a different land, unbeknownst to me.

I miss the glamorous atmosphere,
there were the sidewalks are starred.
Neon lights flash everywhere,
while somewhere not too far, fireworks fly every night.

The moon takes charge,
I remember the parks I enjoyed.
I recall the peaceful strides in the park,
the swims at night.
I recall the crickets' peaceful hymn.

I miss my Asian community,
Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Koreatown
and one little place calls to me the most.
The place called 'Historic Filipinotown'.
There, home lies, and people like me walk the city streets.

I miss school.
Where the buses roar, and the children play.
I remember the dogs barking in the streets,
and the streetcats that come along the road to say "hello."

This is the place where Escalante lived.
Math and art run this here...
Which reminds me.
I'm leaving behind The Walt Disney Concert Hall.
It's shiny exterior reflecting the scalding sun.
It's summer after all.
I'll miss the large murals,
the heavily graffitied walls.
I'll miss this place.

Los Angeles is what we call this place.
Too bad I'm leaving it now.
I will come back, when the week is done.
"Come back," the city calls to me.
And when I do,
I'll see the bright purple cafe,
The color-changing pillars once again.
And then I will surely know,
I am once again home.

Author notes

This is my home. Los Angeles, the City of Angels.
I also go traveling a lot, so that's where the whole LAX thing comes from.

Thanks! But its not that big a deal.
The best part though is the cultural differences.
California is an awesome place to live.
  • That's a pretty sweet poem! I happen to live on the opposite coast and have never been to L.A. or even California. Hopefully someday I'll be able to though! Good luck in the contest!
