Throughout the Olympic games
there have been many memorable events and characters
of which I will mention just a few,
but each and every competitor, entertainer or organiser,
has helped this four-yearly event to succeed and grow
'Eddie the Eagle' is one notable character
gaining notoriety for his lack of sporting expertise
and his consistency in coming last
in his ski jump attempts
which later brought fame and fortune
Nikki Webster although a child
soared high above competitors
in spectacular fashion in 2000 winning hearts,
launching her into television, movies and singing
Dawn Fraser, Ian Thorpe, Herb Elliott, and Cathy Freeman,
are famous Australian Olympians,
amongst many others to collect gold, silver or bronze
making them household names
Songs such as 'Dare to dream' and 'The Flame'
performed by Olivia Newton John, John Farnham and Tina Arena
also became renowned due to the Olympics
which have done much to bring the world together in peaceful competition
